Workout Wednesday – And You Thought Regular Push Ups Were Tough!

by DavalosMcCormack on June 2, 2010

Sometimes I”m amazed at the lengths people go to find new ways of inflicting pain on themselves. Running a marathon not hard enough? OK, let’s add in a two mile swim and 50 mile bike ride. There is a degree of perversity I don’t get.Half the country can’t get off it’s big fat tush, the other half is seemingly hell bent on killing itself. Madness

I realized just how mad when I started looking around for a different way to do push ups. Now the push up is one of the most basic of exercises and done properly is a great work out for the upper body and also the core or stomach muscles. But of course that’s not good enough for some people who feel the need to add several more degrees of difficulty and intensity. Such as doing a full extension push up (where your arms are stretched out completely in front of you rather than under you to support your body: it’s bloody difficult, just try it). And then doing that on your finger tips. And then doing that on two fingers. Or doing it with just one arm. On your finger tips.

Then there is the upside down push up where you get into a hand stand position with your feet against the wall. and then do vertical push ups.

Or for the wimps among us there is the merely ridiculously difficult one arm push up. That is where you place your legs far apart to get the necessary balance for this. Then push up with both arms, and when you are in the top position place one arm behindĀ  your back. Lower yourself down on one arm, then push back up. Do as many as you can, then change arms.

Like I said. Crazy.

But if you want to see something that’s really crazy, check this out. A man who says he has the biggest biceps in the world – 28 inches, that’s bigger than some people’s waist. And with arms like that, I certainly wouldn’t argue with him.
