Waiting for ….uhm what?

I remember reading an article once about a gal who was tired of waiting. She was so ticked off at waiting that she decided to get a stop watch and note the time she spent just waiting. Waiting for the elevator, waiting for the light to change when crossing the street, waiting in line for her coffee, waiting for the bus and the grocery check out, waiting for a meeting to begin. Well, you get the picture. At the end of the day she counted up over 2 and a half hours of waiting. So it occurred to me that we have a lot of time on our hands; or maybe a better way to put it is, we have a lot of time that we can use if we are aware of how we use time.

For example, instead of waiting for the elevator you could take the stairs. While you are waiting for your triple decaf espresso non-fat latte you can study Italian or when you are in line at the store you might begin a conversation with someone new. My friend and co-hort here at Healthy & Simple always carries a book or magazine and while he waits for a bus he reads. Instead of waiting for the movie to begin he reads, he is always stealing back the time that has been taken from him under the guise of waiting. He’s always looking for ways to use the time that he has and believe me, he puts it to good use!

So it occurs to me when people say, “I’d like to exercise, but I just don’t have the time” they are right because exercise can take up an hour or more and you’ve already used all the time you have just waiting for …uhm what?

It takes some concentration but if you think about it, time is something you can make and use wisely. It takes a little conversation with yourself in order to say, “I’ve got a little time, what shall I do with it?”

It’s just a thought. It’s about time.
