You are simply as old as you Look!

Hey! Act your Age! “ What the heck does that mean? Ever wonder how many phrases and words enter our minds and travel to our brains remaining in our subconscious storage tank where they work to make you do, act, or say things that are unconscious? How about these, “Well at my age….” Can you think what comes next? “At My Age I can’t walk that far” .. “At my age, working out is too hard” “At my age I can’t do the things I used to do.”

Try this – “At my age having a good time is over”… “At my age looking good is in the past…” “At my age Life is all downhill” Sounds awful limiting doesn’t it?

I’m always fascinated when someone uses words that help them build a belief system that limits them and makes it okay to be less than they can be. Words are powerful because you begin to believe them even if they aren’t true. Ask George Bush! No, let’s not go there!

What do you say to yourself? Take some time and begin to “look” at what you say, because if you tell yourself – “I can’t lose weight” you won’t. If you say, “I can’t stay on a diet.” You won’t! …and if you tell yourself “I’m just too old, over-the-hill, or past my prime” you definitely will be all of those things. It’s all in the words you use and the beliefs you hold.

As a hypnotherapist, I believe the first step in losing weight, getting in shape or changing the way you look and feel is just “Right Thinking”. You can make the first step toward changing any part of your life simply by watching what you tell yourself. Try it for 2 days. Listen to yourself. That little voice in your head, yes, that one, the one that chatters to you all the time, like when you tell yourself, I should get some exercise” (Now listen carefully, isn’t there a voice that follows that says, “ No your not!” or Yeah, you should but you won’t” or I’m too tired”) That’s the one. Did you know you can change that voice into Right Thinking just by noticing what you say to yourself and changing the message? Go ahead, try it, you’ll be surprised how often you tell yourself things that aren’t good for you.

The best part is you can change it just by recognizing it. If you really want to change, change the way you to talk to yourself,! As schmaltzy as affirmations are, changing the way you think unconsciously will be the first exercise you can do to create a fit body and a healthier life. As my Mom used to say, “ You’re just as Old as you Look!” How old are you?
